Organized soil health management awareness program in Farmer FIRST village by ICAR-CRIDA


Organized ‘soil health management awareness program’ on 10th July 2025 in Farmer FIRST village at Bhakapur FFP team. Dr G Nirmala, principal scientist and PI of Farmer FIRST project of ICAR-CRIDA, created awareness about the importance of soil fertility, balanced nutrient management and maintaining soil health for improvement of crop productivity Soil health cards were provided to farmers during the meeting , She also explained about interpretation of soil health cards for its nutrient status and application of NPK and micronutrients application for different crops viz., Maize, cotton, pigeonpea, and paddy based on nutrient status.

A Mahila Abhivruddhi varotstavalu was being celebrated in the FFP village with SHG groups simultaneously, organized by DRDA, Pudur mandal. Dr G Nirmala had participated as resource person for sensitizing women SHG leaders and members on ongoing programs for women empowerment, importance of collective efforts for strengthening livelihoods, income generation opportunities, savings and credit management. Mr Mohammed Hasham, Cluster in charge and Smt B. Alivelu, Village Agriculture officer also participated as resource persons.

A field visit was organized to grafted brinjal cultivation site, an innovative horticultural intervention introduced in field of Mr. U. Suresh, progressive farmer of Devanoniguda. The benefits of grafted brinjal includes improved resistance to soil-borne diseases and higher yield potential which were highlighted during the interaction with the farmers. And also, the group visited intervention sites such as tomato crop with stacking using bamboo for good fruit yield and support of plant and backyard poultry.
