National Farmers’ Day Celebration at ICAR-CRIDA


Kisan Diwas, also known as National Farmers’ Day, is observed on 23 rd December in India. The day also commemorates the birth anniversary of Shri. Choudhary Charan Singh, India’s fifth Prime Minister, hailed for his understanding of rural issues and his steadfast advocacy for farmers’ rights and welfare.

The day stresses the vital role of farmers in the nation’s prosperity. This observance highlights the challenges they face while celebrating the legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh, a champion for farmers’ rights. ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad celebrated Kisan Diwas, on 23 rd December, 2025.

During the programme, webcasting of Agriculture Minister’s address was arranged where Shri. Bhagirath Choudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare highlighted VB G RAM G Act Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), introduced in December 2025 the updated, rebranded, and revamped version of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), where in, employment guarantee was enhanced from 100 to 125 days per rural household.

Shri. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare highlighted the significance of the day by underscoring the contribution of farming community as well as Shri. Choudhary Charan Singh. The programme was attended by 100 people including farmers from Adilabad District of Telangana and CRIDA staff.
