An awareness programme under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan was organized on 25 June 2026 at Rawalapalle Village, Kotapally Mandal, Mancherial District, Telangana, with the objective of promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing farmers' awareness on efficient crop and soil management.
The programme was coordinated by scientists from ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (ICAR-CRIDA), Dr. K.B. Sridhar, Senior Scientist (Agroforestry), and Dr. H.B. Santosh, Senior Scientist (Plant Breeding). A total of 54 farmers, including 22 farmwomen, actively participated in the programme.
During the awareness session, farmers were apprised of the prevailing rainfall situation and its implications for crop planning and management. Emphasis was laid on the balanced application of fertilizers and the adoption of Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) practices to improve nutrient use efficiency, reduce production costs, and maintain long-term soil fertility. Farmers were also encouraged to adopt crop diversification as a strategy to enhance farm resilience and income under changing climatic conditions.
The scientists highlighted the importance of soil health management through regular soil testing and judicious nutrient application. Discussions were also held on the efficient utilization of crop residues to improve soil organic matter and reduce environmental pollution. In addition, water conservation measures suitable for rainfed agriculture were explained to optimize the use of available water resources. The role of biofertilizers in promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers was also emphasized
