ICAR-CRIDA commences the “Special Campaign 5.0” to meet the goals of institutionalizing Swachhata from 2nd October 2025 and it will continue upto 31 October 2025.
As part of this programme newly renovated Vermicompost Unit at ICAR–Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ranga Reddy Hyderabad was inaugurated on 17th October ,2025 by Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA.
Following the symbolic release of earthworms into the freshly prepared pits, the Director, ICAR–CRIDA, highlighted the importance of vermicomposting in minimizing waste and improving soil health.
The Director also highlighted the importance of waste management and resource recycling in agriculture, emphasizing that vermicomposting serves as an eco-friendly and cost-effective method for converting organic waste into valuable manure. He appreciated the KVK team’s efforts in promoting sustainable and clean farming practices aligned with the Swachhta mission
The unit will serve as a demonstration and training facility for farmers, rural youth, and extension personnel to learn scientific composting techniques and to promote the use of organic inputs for improving soil health and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.
Dr. Chandrakant M. H, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Ranga Reddy, stated that the facility, equipped with modern technology, is expected to serve both as a production unit for quality compost and as an educational resource for students and farmers.
On this occasion, a brief awareness session was conducted by Dr. Gautam Veer Chauhan, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), to educate participants about the benefits and processes of vermicomposting.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from all staff, reaffirming CRIDA’s dedication to creating a cleaner, greener campus environment but also benefit the local community by promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices.
