Farmer Field Schools on HDPS & CS Cotton


Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ranga Reddy District, ICAR-CRIDA, conducted two farmer field schools in two clusters to create awareness among cotton farmers about the importance of HDPC (High Density Planting System, 90 x 15cm) and CS (Closer Spacing, 90 x 30cm) methods and mechanization in cotton cultivation. These programs were held on February 5, 2026, in the Madgul cluster with 70 farmers from 7 villages (Irwin, Brahmanpally, Girikothapally, Andugula, Khubya Thanda, Manya Thanda and Ajila Thanda), and on February 6, 2026, in the Amanagal cluster with 70 farmers from 8 villages (Polepally, Konapur, Marpalli, Jupalli, Choudarpally, Jangareddypally, Ragaypally and Mangalpally).

The main objective of these farmer field schools was to strengthen the farmers' knowledge on adopting scientific production methods, efficient resource utilization, and modern technologies to improve cotton productivity and profitability.

The Farmer Field School programmes were coordinated by Dr. S. Vijaya Kumar, SMS (Agril Engg) and delivered lecture on the role of farm mechanization in HDPS and CS cotton cultivation and the importance of farm machinery such as shredders and hand-operated cotton pickers in reducing labor dependency and minimizing production costs

Dr. Dilip S., SMS (Agricultural Extension), Shri P. Rama Krishna, Technical Officer, also delivered lecturers Shri B. Anand, Field Officer, Rasi Seeds Pvt. Ltd addressed the gathering and explained about Rasi cotton hybrids suitable for HDPS and CS cultivation. Field visits were later organized, and live demonstrations were conducted on the use of a shredder in cotton fields. Progressive farmers shared their experiences on adopting HDPS and CS systems in cotton cultivation.
