ICAR–Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (ICAR-CRIDA) organized a demonstration on the Agri-Horti Model under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) programme in Kusharampally Thanda, Chincholi taluk on 31st August 2026 to promote climate-resilient agroforestry systems among dryland farmers.

Dr. Ravikant Adake, Principal Scientist, highlighted the importance of the SCSP programme in supporting farmers through appropriate agricultural interventions and improving their livelihood and resilience.

Dr. K. B. Sridhar, Senior Scientist, explained the importance of agroforestry and its relevance to carbon credits, emphasizing the potential of tree-based farming systems to provide multiple ecosystem services and additional income opportunities.

Dr. Keerthika A., Senior Scientist, provided practical guidance on planting techniques of different fruit species and highlighted the importance of biofertilizer as a filling mixture for tree species.

A total of 1,270 seedlings comprising mango (100), guava (250), pomegranate(150), custard apple (150), lime (120) and moringa (500) were distributed to 160 beneficiaries. In addition biofertilizer packets of 400 KSB, 300 Azotobacter, 300 Azospirillum were also distributed.

The seedlings will be planted around nutrigardens and farm areas to promote fruit and nutritional security, diversify farm production and enhance the climate resilience of dryland farming systems.
