Insect Parasitoid and Predator Collection Device

About the device

A light-weight portable device designed for collecting live parasitoid and predator insects emerging from infested plant material. The device comprises of an upper parasitoid collection chamber, lower cylindrical chamber and an inverted funnel connecting these two. The device works on the principle of positive phototactic behavior of flying insects. It is easy to operate and can be reused several times.

Application

  • Collection of small parasitoid and predatory insects from pests like mealybugs, scale insects, leaf miners, shootflies etc. from infested plant samples of field and plantation crops.

  • Collection of adults of leaf miners, shoot flies etc. from infested plant samples.

Instructions for use

  • Place the infested sample material in the cylindrical part by emoving the funnel shaped lid at the bottom.

  • Close the lid and plug the hole of the bottom lid with a cotton plug.

  • Incubate the container in well aerated ambient conditions in the laboratory with sufficient lighting.

  • Collect daily the emerging parasitoids and predators in the top transparent chamber.
